The late Yeap Poey Chong was always seen well dressed and elegant, setting a good example to others. In spite of my mischief he was not unkind to me as my form teacher. May he rest in peace. As for the late Bro. Lewis Betrand, you can observe from his stylish manuscript in one of his autographs that he attached great pride in honing his calligraphy skills, an inspiration which secured me a GREGG shorthand gold medal,from a competition opened internationally to all schools in that era organized by Bro. Lewis himself. In fact I remembered I was reluctant to join in the competition, but was strongly persuaded to do so by Bro. Lewis. To be called up on stage at the SMI hall to receieve the honor among the other recipients is really something to treasure. Bro. Lewis painstakingly introduced the GREGG SHORTHAND writing system to SMI, a noteworthy mention to his obituary delivered by Francis Fernandes in the Saint Michael's Church last year. Thank you Bro. Lewis for that innovative contribution that reflected a selfless dedication. May you rest in peace too.
